Hourglass - Oblivious to the Obvious (2009)

The fourth album from this band from USA.

The band was a quintet with a line-up of drums, bass, guitars, keyboards and vocals.

The band returned again after a five years long album break.

Oblivious to the Obvious is a double CD clocking in at two hours and twenty minutes.

The music here is a blend of progressive metal and heavy prog. That is the direction Hourglass has taken on their last couple of albums. A path also followed on this album.

There are still a lot of Dream Theater influences in their music. But the band has branched out this album has indeed got a lot of symphonic prog influences too. But don't despair. This is not a symphonic prog album.

The music is complex and epic at times. There are also some more melodic pieces here in addition to the more heavy rocking pieces.

The band does a good job. The vocals is also good.

Two hours and twenty minutes is a lot of music. Not everything here is good. There are some very good pieces here and some decent pieces here.

This is indeed a good album and one to check out.
