Monnaie De Singe - The Last Chance (2018)

The second album from this band from France.

The band was a seven-piece big band with a lineup of drums, bass, guitars, keyboards and vocals.

Their 2015 debut album Error 404 was a good modern heavy prog album. So I had some expectations to the follow up album, The Last Chance.

The Last Chance is clocking in at one hour.

The music is modern heavy prog.

Porcupine Tree is a good reference. So is Touchstone. Actually, Touchstone is the most relevant comparison here. The reason is Anne Gaelle Rumin's very good vocals here. Monnaie De Singe is one of the too few female vocals prog bands.

The music is muscular and heavy, yet melodic. The music is also complex with a lot of guitar harmonies and some solos.

The music is in other words, guitar-driven with the vocals on the top. There are some sporadic male backing vocals here too.

The overall quality is good to very good. This is another good album from a band who deserves a lot more attention and praise.
