Flying Norwegians - New Day (1974)

The debut album from this band from Norway.

The band was a quintet with a lineup of drums, bass, guitars, slide guitars, banjo, keyboards, harmonica and vocals.

This album is clocking in at three quarters of an hour.

This band was one of the more internationally known bands from Norway in the 1970s. They released six albums between 1974 and 1996. I got their first two albums up for review this month.

The music here is country-rock. This genre, or rather this sub-genre was established by the likes of Poco and Eagles. It was a very popular genre in Norway back in the 1970s. It is still a popular genre in Norway. It is much derided by the music critics. The likes of me, for example.

The music on New Day has the hallmarks of the country'n'western genre. Slide guitars, vocal harmonies and some sugary sweet ballads. There is also some faster country-rockers here.

The music is very melodic in other words. The vocals are good. The musicians does a good job. The sound is very much the US country-rock sound.

The result is a decent enough album. An album that does not change my not-so-positive views on this genre.
