Chimpan A - The Empathy Machine (2020)

The second album from this band from Great Britain.

The band was a duo with a lineup of bass, guitars, drum programming and vocals.

Some guests added cello, narrations and vocals.

Rob Reed returned again after a fourteen years long break with this Magenta side project. This time with the Magenta vocalist Christina Booth as a vocalist on one track. She was one of the many vocalists on this album.

Chimpan A have so far released three albums, four if you include a remix album. I reviewed their pretty good debut album earlier this month and will review their third, their new album later this year.

The music on this one hour long album is electro-pop. There are a lot of references to the 1980s electro-pop scene here. There are some art-rock themes and pieces here too.

The music sounds programmed and has a lot of synths. There are some vocoder vocals here in addition to some soprano vocals and then some clean male and female vocals.

Most of the music is not that interesting and this album is a bit of a step back in quality. This is a decent album but nothing more than that.
