Sigur Rós - Ágætis Byrjun (1999)

The third album from this band from Iceland.

The band was a quartet with a line-up of drums, percussion, bass, guitars, keyboards and vocals.

A number of guests added bass, guitars, harp, strings, woodwinds and choir.

The band returned again for another album. I did not really enjoy their debut album. But I still have a dogged hope for this album.

This album clocks in at one and an half hour.

The music is a blend of electronica and post-rock.

Mostly electronica, it has to be said.

The band had started to develop their own identity on this album. The music is moody, indeed. Arctic and Mid-Atlantic moody with lots of vocals too. Icelandic vocals.

This album is a bit of a grower; it has to be said. And it has grown a lot on me.

The vocals are really good here and there are some really good post-rock themes here. That and some good melodies.

This is indeed a good album and one to check out.
