Arka'n Asrafokor - Zã Keli (2019)

The debut album from this band from Togo.

The band was a quintet with a lineup of drums, percussion, bass, guitars, programming and vocals.

Togo is a small country in West-Africa between Ghana, Mali and Benin. It also have a coast-line with the southern part of the Atlantic Ocean. It also have a good metal and music scene.

Arka'n Asrafokor has toured Europe with their two albums and has got a lot of fans. Listening to this album, it is easy to understand that.

The music on this three quarters of an hour long album is a blend of progressive metal, nu-metal, deathcore and their local folk music. Linkin Park on their debut album is one of the many references here.

The lyrics are a blend of French, English and their local language. The vocals are very good.

There is a lot of African rhythms in their metal. That makes their music pretty unique and original. This album also offer great variations between deathcore, folk music, prog metal, nu-metal and some more bluesy pastoral pieces.

The music is both good and intriguing. The hype is justified when it comes to this band and I am looking forward to reviewing their second album.
