Jamaha!! - Extended Noise (1986)

The debut album from this band from Norway.

The band was a quintet with a lineup of drums, bass, guitars, keyboards and saxophones.

This band started out as AHA who released an album I have reviewed in an earlier edition of this blog. My review can be found here. The emergence of the pop group A-Ha meant the band had to change name and their new name was Jamaha!!. The band then released this album before they split up and returned to their successful solo careers.

Extended Noise is clocking in at three quarters of an hour.

The music is jazz.

The jazz here is a blend of avant-garde jazz and more accessible, melodic jazz. There is even some zeuhl in their music.

There are a lot of saxophones here and some keyboards. The other instruments have a more supporting role.

This may be a bit too hardcore jazz for the progheads like myself. There is some pretty good music here. The zeuhl like bits here are the best pieces here on this pretty good album.
