The first split album between these two bands from Norway.
Jordsjo was a duo with a lineup of drums, percussion, guitars, keyboards, flute and vocals. Breidablik was a trio with a lineup of drums, guitars, synths and flute.
I am a pretty big fan of Jordsjo and I have reviewed their albums in # 2 and # 3 of this blog. Breidablik is a progressive electronic band in the Berlin school and they have released five albums. All of them unreviewed in this blog as I am avoiding that genre. Nevertheless, I got their albums... the Tangerine Dream experience (see # 3) was a good one and I may get onto reviewing their albums later this year.
Kontraster is a Norwegian word which means contrasts in English. Jordsjo is a progressive folk rock band. Breidablik is a progressive electronic band. Both bands get twenty minutes each on this split album. Hence the album title.
The contrasts between the bands and their music is not that big. Jordsjo's symphonic prog influenced folk rock here is very good, bordering to great.
Breidablik is for me the eye opener as their twenty minutes has some cool progressive electronic stuff. It is also pretty organic too and reminds me about Tangerine Dream.
The result is a very good album and one of this year's positive surprises. I hope we will get another split album between these two bands. If not... this split albums is one of the best split albums I have ever encountered in my life.
