Gjenferd - Black Smoke Rising (2026)

The second album from this band from Norway.

The band is a quartet with a lineup of drums, bass, guitars, hammond organ and vocals.

As I wrote in my review back in April 2024 (in the # 3 edition of this blog), their self-titled 2024 debut album was a very good retro-hard rock album. I was therefore happy to review their new album too.

Black Smoke Rising is clocking in at forty minutes.

We still get 1970s hard rock here. The band has moved a lot closer to stoner rock though and the ghosts of Black Sabbath sometimes come through in their music.

There is also some arena rock here too and the sound is very much the 1970s sound.

The vocals are good and ditto for the guitars. The Hammond organ is vintage and very good.

The overall quality is not as good as their very good debut album. This is still a good album and an album fans of 1970s hard rock will love.
