Soup - Duun (2013)

The third album from this band from Norway.

The band was a quartet on this album with a lineup of drums, bass, guitars, keyboards, samples and vocals.

The band established themselves as a good art-rock band on their first two albums. Albums with some heavy music and English vocals. Then we get this album.... Duun.

This album could not have been more different from their first two albums.... and I suspect, the following albums too.

This album is about the Norwegian author Olav Duun and the greatest ever author from the area of Norway where Soup comes from. The rural area around Trondheim. A vast area steeped in history.

I think I have read one of Olav Duun's books. I have also just downloaded some of his best books to my Amazon Kindle device. His books is about poor farmers and other people in this area. They are not the easiest books to read.

The music on this thirty-five minutes long album is folk rock. There are also some early 1970s symphonic prog here. I suspect this is a rock opera it has all the rock opera hallmarks.

The vocals are very good. The lyrics are great. The samples gives this album a mellow ambience. The songs are all good too with a couple of great songs too.

This is a strange album. It is perhaps not a progressive rock album as it has the usual pop/rock song structures. Nevertheless, this is a good album. I am not sure this is a Soup album though...
