Magnum - Into The Valley Of The Moonking (2009)

The 15th album from this band from Great Britain.

The band was a quintet with a lineup of tambourine, drums, bass, guitars, keyboards and vocals.

One guest added violin, viola and cello on one track.

The band soldiered on in a scene where classic rock, like their music, became a lot more popular again. And not at least, socially acceptable.

The band sounded like they had found a new lease of life and a fresher sound on their previous album Princess Alice And The Broken Arrow. An album I gave a good review and rated as one of their two best albums... up to that point.

Into The Valley Of The Moonking is a fifty minutes long album. It is blessed with this great artwork by Rodney Matthews. He also did the great artwork on Princess Alice And The Broken Arrow too. Those art-works set the scene for their music. Even on a digital download.

The music is pomp rock with some folk rock and hard rock influences.

The music is mid-tempo and pretty elegant. There is this folk rock sound in the background and the more pomp rock sound in the front of the mix.

Bob Catley's vocals is great as per usual. Not all songs here are good. But there is enough good songs here to make this one of their, so far, better albums.
