Katatonia - City Burials (2020)

The 12th album from this band from Sweden.

The band was a quintet with a lineup of drums, bass, guitars, keyboards and vocals.

The band returned again after a four years long album break. I am continuing my reviews of all their studio albums.

City Burials is clocking in at fifty minutes.

The music here is alternative rock.

The music is muscular and pretty hard. The band started out as a metal band and their previous albums has always had some elements of heavy metal and extreme metal. That is not the case on City Burials.

The band has not gone soft, though. But the music is more hard than heavy. Muscular hard.

The music is also melancholic and a bit sombre. It is also melodic but still complex and slightly eclectic. The band has moved a lot closer to the likes of Gazpacho this time around.

The vocals are very good.

The overall quality is good throughout. This is indeed one of their best albums and worth checking out if art-rock and alternative rock is your thing.
