The debut album from this band from Brazil.
The band was a sextet with a lineup of drums, saxophones, bass, guitars, congas, bongos, quenacho, quena, charango, pan flutes, flutes, thin whistles and vocals.
The band released two albums before they gave up the ghost. I reviewed their second album back in May 2020 where I described it as their one and only album. I am evidently wrong.. The review is here.
El Gusano Del Pipeno is clocking in at forty minutes.
The music can best be described as a blend of South American folk rock and progressive rock. Or to be more precise... heavy prog.
There is some really heavy guitars here in the Lynyrd Skynyrd vein. This in addition to the lush folk music and folk rock.
Most of the music here is really melodic, colourful and lush. This album is very much an album from the South America with all this continent's sound and ambience. It makes me want to visit this part of the world.
The vocals are good. The flutes and the guitars are good too.
Not everything here is good. That said, this is a pretty good album who deserve a lot more attention. I am minded to give this a good rating...
