Drift Lab - Sunlight (2026)

The second album from this band from Italy.

The band was a quartet with a line-up of drums, bass, guitars, piano and synths.

One guest added sax.

I really liked their 2023 debut album Moonlight as I noted in my review some days ago. I was therefore looking forward to review this album.

Sunlight is clocking in at forty minutes.

The music is fusion.

The music is slick and a bit like the music Jan Hammer did for Miami Vice in the 1980s. But Drift Lab's take on fusion is more substantial than that and a lot more muscular and meaty.

The music is still elegant and melodic. There are some really good solos here and the guitars are great.

A bit more inspired and better pieces of music are missing here. That aside, this is still a good album from a band which may become one of Italy's best fusion/jazz exports in the years to come.
