Lazuli - Amnésie (2004)

The second album from this band from France.

The band was a quintet with a lineup of drums, percussion, bass, guitars, chapman stick, mandolin, piano, marimba, vibes, sampler, programming and vocals.

A number of guests added percussion, guitars, piano, woodwinds, bansuri and vocals.

The band returned again five years after their pretty good debut album.

Amnesie is clocking in at fifty-two minutes.

The music here is a mishmash of French folk rock, North-African folk music, French pop-rock and eclectic prog. Add in some chanson too and you get the picture.

There is a wide variety of acoustic and electric instruments here. Mostly acoustic instruments. Most of them are also traditional North-African instruments.

The music is in other words eclectic. The music is also very colourful and exotic in my Anglo-American ears/culture/mindset.

The female French vocals are great.

The quality is somewhere between decent and good. The band has not really won me over as much as their new album has won me over.

2.5 points
