Tom Moto - Junk (2008)

The debut album from this band from Italy.

The band was a trio with a lineup of drums, bass, guitars, trombone and trumpet.

A handful of guests added bass, samples, electronics, saxophones and narrations.

This band has released two albums and I have both of them up for review this month.

Junk is an hour long album and the music here is being labeled avant-garde rock by the band and those who have so far reviewed it. A correct label, based on the music on this album.

The bass, guitars and drums are pumping out the rhythms in the background where the woodwinds is more or less improvising on some funk and jazz. There are some narrations and samples here too on the top of the rhythm section.

The woodwinds and the pulsating bass are the dominating instruments here.

Although the music is not particular melodic, it is not particular avant-garde either. This is more like jazz than anything else.

The result is a decent enough album and one to check out if esoteric music is your thing.
