Solstafir - Svartir Sandar (2011)

The fourth album from this band from Iceland.

The band was a quartet with a lineup of drums, bass, guitars and vocals.

The band returned again after a two years long album break with this double CD, seventy-eight minutes long album.

This album sees the band saying goodbye to their black metal roots and embark on a journey in a different landscape.

This landscape is as barren as the Icelandic landscape itself.

The music is post-metal. There is a lot of dissonance and downtuned bass and guitars in their music. Well, all the music here is like that.

Although most of the music has traditional song structures, the music is still weird and pretty much left-field. That is very much helped by the vocals and the Icelandic lyrics.

This is indeed an eclectic album.... double album, that is.

The music is pretty good and the music is very unusual and original. So much that even King Crimson fans will enjoy this post-metal album. Check it out.
