The 12th album from this band from Norway.
The band was a sextet with a lineup of drums, bass, guitars, violin, keyboards, programming and vocals.
This three quarters of an hour long album is another visit to their art-rock universe.
The band started out as a Marillon, the Steve Hogarth era, sounding band. Then they slowly developed their own sound who greatly influenced other bands like their fellow countrymen Airbag.
The music on their previous album Fireworker (2020) was epic and grand. Magic 8 Ball sees the band retreat to a more introspective, melancholic sound and music.
Introspective, melancholic art-rock is what we get here. As usual, there are some post-rock influences here as well. The music is pretty softly spoken. There is one vaudeville rock song here too.
The vocals is a per usual superb and the violins is adding a lot of quality to this album.
This is not their best album. Nevertheless, this is a good album and one I really enjoy as much as I enjoy the rest of their albums.
