Epignosis - Refulgence (2011)

The second album from this band from USA.

The band was a one-man-band with Robert W. Brown Jr doing the guitars, organ, mellotron, synths, programming and the vocals.

One guest added female vocals on one track.

This album is the follow up to the 2009 album Still Water. An album I reviewed earlier this year in this blog. It was a pretty good album.

Refulgence is a fifty minutes long album and the music is again US symphonic prog... sort of.

The music is mid-tempo with some strong Americana influences in this take on US symphonic prog.

The music has again some references from and to the Dutch band US.

The guitars and vocals are pretty good. The female vocals are adding a lot of colours to the music. The sound is pretty good although it is not flawless.

This album is most of all suffering from being the product of a one-man-band. There are not many good details here and the music is a bit pedestrian.

The quality is somewhere between decent and good. I am still to be won over by Robert...
