The debut album from this band from The Netherlands.
This band is a one-man-band with Edo Spanninga and he did the synths and the programming.
Edo Spanninga were a member of both Trion and Flamborough Head before he set out on his own with E.D.O. For all I know, he is still involved in those two bands. I hope so as both Flamborough Head and Trion was and are great bands.
The Past Is A Foreign Country is a forty minutes long concept album based on the western world from 1945 to this date. There is a lot of sampled speaches from Winston Churchill, Margaret Thatcher and unfortunately.. this odious Donald Trump, a man who has insulted everyone here in Europe during the last 48 hours.
The music is a blend of symphonic prog, neo-classical music and cinematic rock. The music feels like one long piece of music although it is supposed to be seven different pieces of music.
The music is very melodic. It is also a bit meandering and pedestrian.
The quality is somewhere between decent and good. This is therefore an acceptable debut album.
