Old Castle. The - Wistful (2022)

The third album from this band from Italy.

The band was a quartet with a line-up of drums, bass, guitars, keyboards, flute and vocals.

I have had the joy of reviewing their first two albums this summer. Their debut album is an ELP like symphonic prog album. Their second album is an RPI album. I was therefore wondering where the band was on Wistful. A true mystery, only solved by listening to the album and reviewing it.

This album is clocking in at thirty-six minutes.

The music here is a blend of RPI and Anglo-US symphonic prog.

The music is more symphonic prog than RPI. But the band has nicely combined these two genres, very related genres, on this album.

The music is mid-tempo and pretty melodic. There are a lot of ELP inspired music here too.

The music is pretty quirky throughout. The quirkiness comes from the RPI influences.

The vocals is good and the musicians does a good job.

This is their best album so far and their most interesting album. An album which heralds their arrival as one of the more interesting bands in Italy right now.

RPI and symphonic prog fans should and must check out this album.
