Magnum - Chase the Dragon (1982)

The third album from this band from Great Britain.

The band was a quintet with a lineup of drums, percussion, bass, guitars, grand piano, organ, keyboards, synths and vocals.

The band returned three years after their second album II. A pretty deeply unimpressive album which is rumoured to be their weakest album. I did review that one and the debut album in # 3 of this blog.

The band returned with this thirty-five minutes long album.

The music here is pomp rock with a lot of heavy metal influences. Yes, while the band had been away, the new wave of british heavy metal had changed the music scene in Great Britain and further afield.

Magnum was in danger of being left behind... so the band had to adapt.

The music on this album is therefore pretty hard with a lot of choruses and heavy riffs and hooks. There is a lot of heavy guitars here, in other words.

Bob Catley's vocals is great. The music is not so great.. or even good. This album is sorely lacking from quality songs. It is still an improvement from their second album, but not by much.
